Fold forming is sort of a three-step process: First you fold, then you form and then you form by unfolding. The technique was invented Charles Lewton-Brain, who has written an excellent book about it, with the title “Foldforming”. http://www.brynmorgen.com/foldforming... With the technique you can easily create interesting organic shapes, like this pod like tie clip. I probably could have made it in one piece, but I wanted a tight turn and a consistent shape, so I made it from two strips. The problem with many traditional tie clips, is that they are basically a folded strip of metal and they only really squeeze at one point. This gives them a tendency to tilt, or pivit if you will, around that point. The design I have come up with, have contact with the tie along four edges, so it should hold its position without tilting.
