UIC’s School of Public Health Community Outreach Intervention Project (COIP) was founded in 1986 at the height of the HIV epidemic. Now, in 2016, the group continues to serve communities all over Chicago in an unconventional way — by employing former drug users as outreach workers to educate people on HIV/AIDS prevention.
